What’s the difference between this Video Doorbell and the previous generation?

Both generations of Video Doorbell send notifications to your phone, tablet and PC when anyone presses your doorbell or triggers the built-in motion sensors. When you answer the notification, you can see, hear and speak to visitors from anywhere.

The main differences are the new Video Doorbell has 1080p HD video (vs 720p HD), an additional Near Motion Zone feature that provides motion detection in areas only 1.5m - 4.5m in front of your home, and an updated mounting setup that simplifies installation and removal for battery charging. The new Video Doorbell also has improved audio quality and crisper night vision.

How does Video Doorbell stay powered?

Video Doorbell is powered by a rechargeable, built-in battery or can be hardwired to existing doorbell wiring for continuous charging.

Are there specialised mounting brackets ?

Does Video Doorbell save my videos and photos so I can view them later?

If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, videos captured by your Video Doorbell will be saved to your Ring account for up to 30 days, so you can review them at any time.

Photos captured will be saved to your Ring account for up to 7 days. All Ring Video Doorbells come with a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect.[1] During or after the trial, you can choose to purchase a Ring Protect Plan to save your videos and photos.

Can I share my videos and photos with people?

If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, you can choose share your videos and photos with anyone, including neighbours, friends, family and local police. Every Video Doorbell comes with a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect.[1] You can choose to subscribe to Ring Protect at any time to save, review and share all videos and photos captured by your Video Doorbell, and you won’t be charged until the end of your free trial.

What is Ring Protect?

Ring Protect is a comprehensive service that activates video recording and photo capture, saving and sharing for your Video Doorbell, plus a few extra perks. There are two tiers of Ring Protect: Basic and Plus.

Ring Protect Basic activates video recording and photo capture and sharing for individual Ring Doorbells and Cameras. It saves all your videos to your Ring account for up to 30 days and photos for up to 7 days, so you can review what you missed and share what’s important. Ring Protect Basic subscriptions start at only €3 per month and only covers one device.

Ring Protect Plus adds even more to your home security. It includes video recording, photo capture and sharing for unlimited Ring Doorbells and Cameras at your home.

Ring Protect Plus subscriptions start at only €10 per month per home.

Do I need Ring Protect to use Video Doorbell?

No. You can still use Video Doorbell to watch over your home and answer the door from anywhere, even without a subscription to Ring Protect. Without Ring Protect, you’ll still receive instant notifications when anyone comes to your door, and you can answer the notification to see, hear and speak to visitors in real time right from your mobile device.

However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone. Photos will not be captured.

[1] Free trial is not applicable for locations with an existing Ring Protect Plus subscription. If you have a Protect Plus subscription for the location where you’re installing a new Ring device, it will automatically be covered by your subscription.

[2] To keep important videos beyond 30 days, download them to your PC or mobile device. You can delete videos from your Ring account at any time. Once deleted, videos cannot be restored.

[3] Extended coverage warranty applies to Ring devices within its original warranty period when you subscribe to Ring Protect Plus. Once the original warranty expires, the device will be covered under Ring Protect Plus until you discontinue your subscription. Non-Ring and other third-party devices are not eligible for the extended warranty.
